Gathering Safely

Like many spaces the faith community of Westminster United Methodist Church is learning how to gather safely once again. Our building is open for worship, choir, Sunday school, and more. When together in our building all are invited to wear masks. We ask that if you are not vaccinated to please wear a mask, and if you are vaccinated, the choice is yours.

But, what about passing the peace — when everyone turns and greets each other? We’re keeping it simple and being honest. Everyone will be invited to turn briefly to wave and greet those closest to you while maintaining social distance.

If you are feeling unwell, please join us for online worship, and we look forward to seeing you when you’re feeling better.

We are doing our best. We ask all to be kind to one another, and let’s work to gather safely when together.

Will you be welcome?

Visiting a new faith community can be nerve wracking. Will people be friendly? Will there be people who look or talk like you? And, will the message from the pulpit be inclusive?

These are all legit questions to ask!

You are welcome. We want you here. And, we’re willing to prove it.

Everyone will be friendly; someone may be too friendly. It’s okay to express your boundaries. We don’t all like hugs either.

We hope there are people who look and talk like you here, but if not, we’re willing to learn. Diversity of cultures, ethnicities, languages, countries of origin, and even style make all of us better. And, if you’re the first, imagine how great it’ll be for the person who visits after you that looks or talks like you.

As for the pulpit messaging…Rev Megan Burg began leading this faith community in July 2022. She was raised in the United Methodist Church and has fought for inclusion — all types — for as long as she can remember. Rev Megan is a graduate of Iliff School of Theology, a school known for its justice, equity, and peace work.

Pulpit messages include equity for women, justice for people of color, care of creation, belief in science, and an understanding there is always more to learn. You should hear it for yourself!

Deepen your faith; bloom here.
